It’s September again and here we are renewing our old promises full of expectations and enthusiasm and making same fashion mistakes, because there’s no one who doesn’t love this feeling of new 365 chances to make this year, our great year, right? But what if we used this spirit to instead of creating a “new me” we simply created a “better me”? Now that all the festive excitement is over and your life has returned to normalcy, how about getting ready to start this year more sensibly, setting goals and using smarter and gentler tricks with yourself this 2021?
But before we talk about diet, gymnastics, and the various other promises you’ve sworn to keep this year, what if we started with the silly fashion mistakes that, year in and year out, we swore not to fashion mistake make again? There comes a certain time when we finally (!!!) understand that fashion should be a joy, a liberator, something to make us feel happy and not get discouraged, waste time or have any negative impact on our lives. So if your first thought at the start of this year was “new year, new life”, then here are some suggestions for small changes in behavior (and thinking) that will make your year truly new.
- Don’t compare your clothes with others
We often let ourselves get involved in what others around us or (and mainly) on social media are wearing. This can only be fine if you are rationally and occasionally looking for a little inspiration, but as soon as you start comparing yourself, then it’s time to turn off Instagram and get back to reason. We are all different and it is exactly this uniqueness of ours that must be celebrated, not the other way around…
- Don’t feel pressured to have something new
New purchase is not synonymous with feeling prettier or more satisfied. Optimize your life by buying less and valuing the clothes you already own more and don’t make Fashion Mistakes. Properly washing and storing clothes will prolong the life of your favorite items, so you can wear them longer. When you need something new, be rational. Focus on what you need and what for and try to find the most versatile version of this piece possible. Believe me, your conscience and the planet will thank you.
- Don’t force a look or a trend
Forcing yourself to be different takes time, willingness, and often some psychology. Forcing a look, a trend or anything else is more than a waste of time and money, it’s a loss of identity. Invest only in what makes the most sense and what makes you happy – and we’re not just talking about clothes, ok? Avoid wasting energy and accumulating unused stuff in an attempt to fit in or please anyone but yourself.
- Don’t try to lose weight to get into something
Don’t get into it. Same. This rarely works and is a completely frustrating process. For fashion to make us happy, the first attitude to change is acceptance and respect for our own bodies and try to minimize fashion mistakes. So don’t feel pressured to be more or less thin, to show or hide your body to be a part of something. Buy what suits you, what makes you happy, and ignore the number on the tag or any unfortunate comments.
- Consider planning looks
Of course, we don’t always have time to plan all the outfits, but if you leave it to the last minute, in addition to risking being late, you end up always wearing the same outfit combinations because you didn’t have time to let your creativity flow. Strive to choose even if it is a single piece for each day, as this will create a starting base to build new looks. Planning your looks will make you not only vary your outfits more, but also gain extra minutes in the morning.
- Praise more
Regardless of whether you or the people around you intend to dress to impress, a compliment from an elegant person is always most welcome and reduce fashion mistakes. We know how that makes us feel, so don’t forget to spread your heartfelt affection to another elegant human being more. Remember: kindness breeds kindness.
- Don’t ignore what makes you happy
Do you like bright colors? Love mixing prints? You know you’re not hot, but retro is your style? So use it. If there’s something that really speaks for you, it doesn’t matter how trendy or “not-trendy” you might appear. The truth is, if you love it, it probably suits you, you feel great, and nothing suits us any better than looking like ourselves.
